An introduction to the Leiden University Fund

The Leiden University Fund (LUF) was founded in 1890 and since that date has been committed to maintaining and improving the high quality of education offered at Leiden University. In this context, we provide subsidies to projects conducted by faculties and researchers, and we finance 24 endowed chairs. But students, too, can apply to the LUF for support with activities which add value to their studies, for example for a study visit or a research project at home or abroad. Students can also become student members of the LUF.

The prime task of the LUF is to gather financial support and to make funds available for Leiden University. In addition, the LUF is active in keeping former students involved with the university and with one another.

Alumni activities

The LUF organises a range of different activities for alumni, such as the Dies lectures, Cleveringa meetings and alumni receptions. We also manage the database of Leiden University alumni, which contains the details of some 77.000 alumni.

Thanks to the sponsors

The interest from our capital allows us to support Leiden University and to further the quality of the education and research carried out at the university. All this is made possible by the financial contributions from alumni.
