Academic staff of Leiden University may apply for a subsidy for organising a congress or workshop. Only congresses and workshops which are organised in Leiden or in locations belonging to Leiden University, such as Campus The Hague or the Faculty of Performing Arts, will be considered for subsidies. They should have an academic goal and/or the theme of the congress should be of particular social relevance. Travel costs and accommodation/living expenses for members of an opposition committee for a doctoral defence cannot be considered for a subsidy. The maximum subsidy amounts to € 2.500,-. The faculty or department of the applicant is required to contribute an amount equal to the subsidy applied for from its own resources .
In addition to your application form, you should submit the following appendices:
- the motivation for your application, including a brief description of the theme of the congress in relation to your own research;
- financial support from the faculty or department: indicate that the faculty or department is supporting the congress by financial means with an amount which should at least be equal to that of the subsidy being applied for. You should include proof of the approval of this support with your application, or at least with your statement of expenditure;
- recommendation: a written recommendation by the chairman of the research group;
- a budget, including information about other (potential) sponsors such as the congress fund of the Executive Board;
- draft acknowledgement: sponsorship by the LUF should be acknowledged in the congress programme. The standard phrasing of the acknowledgement will be sent with the letter of approval.
