PhD candidates from Leiden University may apply for a subsidy for (return) travel costs from Leiden to the main location for the study visit, and for accommodation and living expenses (including visa). At least one-third of the total of these costs should be borne by resources from the faculty or the relevant department; the remaining two-thirds may be considered for a guarantee by LUF. The total of the subsidy may not exceed € 2.000,-. This subsidy is only intended for PhD candidates. During the course of their appointment, they are eligible for a contribution to the travel costs and accommodation/living expenses for a study visit or a congress. As a rule, only one person per research group can receive a contribution for the same study visit. If your supervisor is on an extended stay abroad and you would like to visit him or her there, this is not considered to be a study visit for which you can apply for a subsidy.
In addition to your application form, you should include the following appendices:
• the motivation or your application, including a brief description of the subject in relation to your own research;
• recommendation: a written recommendation by your supervisor;
• a budget, including information about other (potential) sponsors, to be submitted on the form provided;
• financial support from the university; at least one-third of the travel costs and accommodation/living expenses must be provided from the resources of your own faculty or department. You should include the approval of this financial support as an appendix to your application. draft acknowledgement: the support you have received from LUF should be acknowledged in any resulting publications/papers. The standard phrasing of the acknowledgement will be sent with the letter of approval.
