The Leiden University Fund (LUF) is the university's leading fund. With the support of alumni and other donors, scientists are working on groundbreaking research in the field of health, safety, sustainability and other social themes, and talented students and young researchers are given the opportunity to realise their ambitions.

Whether you establish a named fund or make a donation, as a Golden Keyholder you make a lasting contribution to the future of education, research, and talent development at Leiden University.

It is also possible to support the LUF by means of an automatic direct debit. You can donate a set amount monthly or annually with a standing order.

Once a year the LUF Committee for Academic Expenditure (CWB) awards grants to scientific projects of Leiden University researchers. The grants vary from €5,000 to €25,000.

The University conducts a lot of research into foster care. How can we improve the support for foster children? Which interventions really are effective? It is important that this knowledge is shared not only in academic papers but also with those who work in the practice.

The Committee for Academic Expenditure (CWB) of the Leiden University Fund (LUF) awards grants for research and teaching projects, ranging from € 2,600 tot € 35,000.

Infrastructure projects – such as ports, highways and railways – are intertwined with geopolitics, economic systems, political interests and cultural values that affect citizens. A team of researchers from several faculties and institutions was granted the LUF Impulse Grant for research on the prominent place of infrastructure in the thinking about development in Africa.
