Student association SIB-Leiden raises funds for Education of Changemakers: 'There's something for everyone'

On Wednesday 13 May, the Charity Committee of the Dutch United Nations Students Association (SIB-Leiden) organised an auction in support of the LUF crowdfunding project 'Support the Education of Changemakers Who Protect Children Worldwide'.

The association chose to host this auction in aid of the Leiden University Fund, after organising a similiar event for the LUF Children's Fund in the summer of 2025. The treasurer of the committee, Rik Manuel, explains: 'This year, we have put great effort into raising funds for the Changemakers project, which focusses on offering education for changemakers that want to contribute to the protection of children's rights worldwide'.

These changemakers are students from countries where children's rights are under pressure. With the support of this LUF project, they are able to follow the Advanced Master in International Children's Rights at Leiden University. This knowledge and experience equips these students to make a global change in the area of children's rights.

The international theme of this project also fits the mission of the association. 'We believe that education is the key for sustainable global change. That's why we wanted to support this project specifically as a student's association.'

An auction with a great variety of items

Like last year - then for the LUF Children's Fund - the SIB Charity Committee chose to organise an auction to raise the funds. Not only (former) members of the association offered lots, local organisations and even different embassies in The Netherlands also provided various items. The Embassy of Luxembourg offered a book package, there was a Costa Rican merchandise package on offer and the Vietnamese embassy provided a traditional painting.

'The attending members were given a varied and fun collection of items, brought in by embassies, fraternities and individual members. There was something for everyone, which made for an energised and busy evening.' At the end of the evening, an amount of 1.380 euro was raised. A wonderful result!
