Well spent

In countless offices, libraries, and laboratories, dedicated researchers – supported by the donors of the Leiden University Fund – are working to deepen our fundamental understanding of the world and the people around us. They make the unknown known and push the boundaries of existing fields of science.

A significant part of our work focuses on enabling scientific research, often by early-career researchers. On the Research page, you can find the latest news about remarkable projects made possible by our donors.

In addition, we fund academic chairs, provide travel and study grants, and support the organisation of conferences and workshops. Through various scholarships and awards, the LUF contributes to a vibrant academic environment where every student, in Leiden and The Hague, can reach their full potential.

Pieter Schol

As a Master’s student in Biomedical Sciences, Pieter went to the US for a research project at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. 'I learned a great deal about the latest techniques used in cancer research,' he says. 'I will definitely apply these in my future career and am extremely grateful to the donors of the LUF. Without their financial support, my research project in Boston would not have been possible.'

Ways to contribute

The support of committed individuals and organisations is indispensable in making all of this possible. Together with you, the LUF helps ambitions flourish, brings innovative ideas to life, and sees remarkable projects come to fruition. Will you become a donor too? If so, visit Contribute.

LUF Newsletter 2025

LUF Newsletter

Every spring, our donors find the LUF Newsletter (in Dutch) in their letterbox. In the newsletter, you will discover a number of remarkable stories from students and researchers who are bringing their ambitions to life thanks to a LUF grant. These stories are just a small selection of the research, projects, and events made possible by our donors.

By becoming a supporter, you will receive – in addition to this newsletter – regular digital updates, and we would love to keep you informed via our social media channels.
