LUF also supports scientists at Leiden University who are involved in organising conferences and workshops. Decisions on funding are based not only on the scientific objective, but also on how relevant the field of science and the findings are to society.

The diversity of the different disciplines is reflected in the many and varied topics that are covered in the workshops and conferences: from problems around school attendance of pupils and defining best practices for intervening in problems  concerning premature school leavers to international trading relations in present-day Africa. These events are platforms for different speakers present surprising findings that can refute persistent stereotypes surrounding this issue.
