Tax benefits abroad
Donors from several countries can support the Leiden University Fund while benefiting from tax advantages.
From the US
The LUF has established the ‘University of Leiden Fund’ with the Netherland-America Foundation, Inc. (NAF) for American alumni. Through the NAF, alumni can make gifts and donations benefiting from the favourable tax provisions available in the United States for recognised public charities.
If you are based in the U.S., there are several ways to support the Leiden University Fund through the NAF:
- Credit card: Visit thenaf.org to make a donation by credit card.
- Cheque: Make your cheque payable to Netherland-America Foundation, Inc. and indicate ‘University of Leiden Fund’ in the memo line. Please send your cheque along with the completed NAF form to: The Netherland-America Foundation, 505 8th Avenue, Suite 12A-05, New York, NY 10018.
- Wire transfer: For wire transfer instructions, please contact the NAF at development@thenaf.org or (212) 825-1221.
Donations to the Netherland-America Foundation are tax-deductible for U.S. federal income tax purposes. Occasionally, U.S. banks may have difficulties with the IBAN number, especially smaller institutions. In such cases, it is recommended not to provide the IBAN. You may also be asked for an ABH or routing code, which do not apply in the Netherlands.

From Canada
Leiden University is recognised by the Canada Revenue Agency. To claim a tax deduction for your gifts to the Leiden University Fund, you will need a donation receipt. You can request this document by contacting info@luf.leidenuniv.nl.
From Europe
In order to make giving with tax benefits possible for alumni who live outside the Netherlands, but within Europe, we are part of Transnational Giving Europe (TGE). TGE is a collaboration of leading European foundations and associations that make cross-border donations within Europe possible. The TGE network enables donors, both companies and individuals, to financially support non-profit organisations in other participating countries, while benefiting directly from the tax benefits of their country of residence.
When you reside in one of the countries mentioned below and would like to make a tax effective donation to the LUF, you can contact the partner foundation in the country of residence. Your national foundation will then contact the LUF to inform us of the incoming donation.
If your country of residence is not mentioned in the list below we do not have donors from this country yet and the LUF has to start up an application. This can take some time. It's also possible your country of residence is not listed because there are no possibilities available for giving with tax benefits.

Thanks to Luxembourg's legal framework, donors living in Luxembourg can make their donations directly to a foreign beneficiary (as far as those beneficiaries comply with certain requirements) without passing through TGE and will, under certain conditions, benefit from income tax deductibility in Luxembourg.
