Urgent research projects funded with three large grants
Misleading graphs, the erosion of democracy and the weakening of bones as a side-effect of medication. Researchers are starting work on these very topical problems, funded by subsidies from the Leiden University Fund (LUF), and the Praesidium Libertatis I Foundation, awarded on Monday 12 October.

Innovative approach to antibiotic resistance
Resistance to antibiotics is a major problem in health care. Thanks to a joint grant from the Elise Mathilde Fund and Leiden University Fund (LUF), supported by alumni donations, pharmacologist dr. Coen van Hasselt can look for new dosing schedules to reduce the development of antibiotic resistance.

Apply for grants
The Leiden University Fund (LUF) offers various grant calls that support research and education at Leiden University. These include grants for scientific projects, study visits for PhD candidates, innovative initiatives, and international internships for students.

Snouck Hurgronje Prize goes to Leiden Resuscitation Day
Quick resuscitation can save lives, but under 1% of the population of Leiden is a community first responder. Student associations and various partners in Leiden want to give a resuscitation course to 500 residents and students of Leiden. This special project has won the LUF’s Snouck Hurgronje Prize.

Support the Ukrainian and Russian students in Leiden and The Hague
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also had dramatic consequences for Ukrainian students at Leiden University. Besides their intense concern about the fate of family and friends, they also face major financial problems. This also applies to Russian students who can no longer access their bank accounts. Support all these students through the LUF’s Emergency Fund.

Focusing attention on children with a parent in detention
University lecturer in criminology and research fellow Dr Joni Reef can make a start on her research on family-focused work in criminal sentencing. She has been awarded a subsidy of €24,000 from the partnership between the LUF and the Gratama Foundation.
