Internal medicine travel scholarship in the field of patient care

About the grant

Prof.dr. A.E. Meinders Fund: grant for a study trip or internship in the field of internal medicine and patient care.
Maximum grant amount: €10,000.

Who is eligible?
  • Students and PhD candidates Internal Medicine or Biomedical Sciences, if they are supervised by the Internal Medicine department.
  • Candidates must be curious, entrepreneurial and enthusiastic.
  • Candidates with demonstrable broad interests and who distinguish themselves in a field other than medicine are more likely to receive a scholarship.
Grant terms and conditions
  • You must be a student or a PhD candidate at Leiden University.
  • The study trip or internship preferably takes place at one of LUMC’s preferred research partners.
  • The project start date must not precede the submission deadline.
  • Applicants must submit a substantive report and a financial account via the LUF Grant Portal within two months of completing the project, after which the grant will be paid out.
  • Applications that contravene restrictive measures adopted by the government or Leiden University or that apply in  the destination country (code orange or red) will not be considered.

  • Application review: Expenditure committee of the Prof.dr. A.E. Meinders Fund.
  • Grant rounds and deadlines: April 1st and October 1st.
  • Applications may be submitted in Dutch or English. In both cases, a Dutch summary must be included.
  • The application must include a summary (max. 250 words) and a statement of motivation (max. 450 words).
  • Required documents for the application:
  • You will be notified after the application review meeting of whether your application was successful and if so, the grant amount awarded.

Research in the field of Ophthalmology

About the grant

P.A. Jager-van Gelder Fund: grant for research in the field of ophthalmology. Maximum grant amount: €5,000.

Who is eligible?

Students, PhD candidates and researchers affiliated with Leiden University conducting ophthalmological research at LUMC or abroad. Internationals coming to Leiden for ophthalmological research can also apply.

Grant terms and conditions
  • The project start date must not precede the application date.
  • Applicants must submit a substantive report and a financial account via the LUF Grant Portal within two months of completing the project, after which the grant will be paid out.
  • Applications that contravene restrictive measures adopted by the government or Leiden University or that apply in  the destination country (code orange or red) will not be considered.

Who is eligible?

PhD candidates and students of the Willem-Alexander Kinderziekenhuis (WAKZ).

Grant terms and conditions
  • You must be a student or a PhD candidate at Leiden University.
  • The project start date must not precede the application date.
  • Applicants must submit a substantive report and a financial account via the LUF Grant Portal within two months of completing the project, after which the grant will be paid out.

Douwe D. Breimer Research Fund: grant for organising or participating in an academic meeting. Maximum grant amount: in consultation (grants@luf.leidenuniv.nl).

Who is eligible?
  • LUMC and Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR): students, PhD candidates and young researchers Pharmacy and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Study associations Aesculapius, Medische Faculteit der Leidse Studenten (M.F.L.S.) and Koninklijke Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging (K.N.P.S.V.).

  • Individual applicants: You must be a student or a PhD candidate at Leiden University or have a paid appointment of at least 0.4 fte.
  • For applications from the Koninklijke Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging (K.N.P.S.V.), a link with LUMC/Leiden University is preferred.
  • The project start date must not precede the submission deadline.
