Leiden Empowerment Fund
The purpose of the Leiden Empowerment Fund (LEF) is to ensure an environment in which researchers and students at Leiden University can fully realise their ambitions, regardless of their gender, cultural background, sexual orientation or physical disabilities. It does this by creating equal opportunities.
In this grant round, we will be providing LEF grants to first-generation academics who have faced obstacles during their research. First-generation students and academics have considerably less access to networks within and outside the University, and a lack of financial resources often hampers their studies or research. We speak of first-generation scientists if the parents of the researcher did not study at a university.
The application may concern a research project, the writing of an article or preparing for another, larger grant application. The subsidy consists of a maximum amount of € 15,000.
Application procedure for researchers
To be eligible for an LEF grant, a researcher’s project must satisfy the conditions stipulated in the Grant conditions for LEF document. The application is closed. There will be no call in 2022 for the LEF grant.
The LEF’s Expenditure Committee will assess the applications that have been submitted.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your application, please contact Inge Erkelens at CWB@LUF.leidenuniv.nl.
Final report
We must receive the final report no more than two months after your project has been completed. You can submit your final report using the Final report for project grant form. The final report must contain a number of elements, which can be attached to the form:
- Expense report, for which you should use the expense declaration form
- Descriptive report
- Photographs of the project
The Criteria for final report for LEF grant document specifies the elements that must be included in your descriptive report. This final report will form the basis for determining the precise amount of the grant that you will be paid, and we can also use it to show alumni, donors and potential donors what has been (or will be) achieved with their support. Your report and photographs become the property of the LUF and may be used for these publication purposes.
