PhD students at Leiden University can apply to the Leiden University Fund (LUF) for various grants, such as participating in a conference abroad or for study trips outside of the Netherlands.

All applications are in principle evaluated by the LUF’s Committee for Academic Expenditure (Commissie voor Wetenschappelijke Bestedingen, CWB), which is made up of professors from all faculties of Leiden University. A part of the grants comes from what are known as Named Funds: funds with a specific purpose. For some specific funds the evaluation of applications is delegated to specific grant committees.

Promovendi can also apply for a grant to organise small-scale conferences and workshops.
